Why we built it

Every conversation we have with an SME owner, board chair, or MD about fractional leadership starts with the same question: what does this actually cost?

The answer is fragmented across recruiter salary guides, LinkedIn surveys, and rate cards from individual fractional firms. Each one is partial; most are anchored to one role or one sector. There has been no consolidated, source-cited UK benchmark you can hand to a board for a budget conversation.

This report fixes that. Every figure is sourced. Every range is pre-VAT and clearly tagged as SME, mid-market, or London-premium. We’ve included the day-rate distributions, the loaded cost of a permanent hire, and a three-test decision matrix that tells you which engagement model fits your situation.

Use it however you like. Cite it, share it, hand it to your finance director. If you spot anything we’ve missed or a source that should be added to the 2027 edition, let us know.
